BiSN Successfully Completes First Stage of Key North Sea Campaign

Cost-effective, environmentally-driven wel-lok™ alloy barrier technology selected to plug and abandon oil and gas wells.

BiSN has successfully completed the first stage of a multi-year campaign in the North Sea on behalf of a major oil and gas operator.

To achieve this, BiSN used its proprietary wel-lok alloy barrier technology to safely and efficiently plug and abandon six oil and gas wells in the North Sea.

Environmentally friendly, permanent well-barrier & gas-tight seal technology holds key

As a result of this three-year contract award, which features two one-year extensions, BiSN supplied this operator with wel-lok alloy plugs for its ongoing offshore UK P&A campaign in the North Sea. To provide permanent well-barriers and gas-tight seals in single and multiple annuli contexts, BiSN deployed its patented wel-lok Seal Through Casing (STC) tool

The success of this initial phase of the campaign ensures that the six wells are permanently, securely and reliably sealed, vastly reducing corporate liability and potential environmental impact. The operator chose BiSN wel-lok technology because of its advantages over conventional technology. The fact that it is completely impermeable to gas migration during and after setting was a critical factor. The technology provides the ultimate assurance of a permanent seal, along with significantly reducing the length of barrier required, lowering costs and improving operational efficiencies.

“This has truly been a great leap forward for both BiSN and this leading North Sea operator,” said Paul Carragher, CEO and Founder of BiSN. “Working with this scale of operator over multiple years means we are forging a strong partnership based on trust of the technology. We will continue to deliver permanent solutions that are safer and more cost effective.”

“This campaign is the continuation of a number of years of successful deployments in the North Sea,” said Mark Nicol, BiSN Regional Business Development Manager – UK, Europe & Africa. “The success of this campaign was, as we see time and time again, ensured by a collaborative and team ethic between the operator, BiSN and other associated service providers to achieve the required results. It was a pleasure to work with such a motivated and professional team, and I am very excited to see how we can continue to provide operators with wel-lok technology in the same manner in the North Sea and beyond.”

Successful performance in the North Sea

BiSN has been actively supporting customers operating in the UK and Norwegian North Sea since 2017. Its largest-ever operation utilising wel-lok alloy plug barrier technology in the region featured a 30-well campaign carried out in the Valhall field on behalf of AkerBP, which was completed in 2021. The technology is now being used on a broader basis in an ever-growing number of areas, providing safer, permanent well plugging.
